Our children & youth

Children are a main focus at St. Barnabas! Sunday School is available for children from K - 12 throughout the year, and nursery care is provided for the youngest children. Kids have the opportunity to participate in the Youth Choir and the Bell and Chime Choirs. They participate in worship services several times during the year, and enjoy Vacation Bible School every summer. A group for 7-12th graders (Just 4 Youth) provides social activities for pre-teens and teens.

Our building

St. Barnabas is situated on approximately two acres in Montgomery, Ohio, a northeastern suburb of Cincinnati, with easy access to I-71 and I-275. Built in 1991, the building benefited from the "sweat equity" of members of the congregation, making this facility truly a labor of love.

Our music

Music is part of the DNA of St. Barnabas. Our excellent music director/organist has an international reputation as a classical pianist, and has developed our choir into an integral part of our worship. We also offer a children's choir, and bell and chime choirs. We make a "joyful noise" every Sunday!

Our History

St. Barnabas was established in Montgomery, OH in 1980, and remains the only Episcopal church in the immediate vicinity. For the first 10 years or so, the fledgling congregation held services at the local Sycamore High School. Parishioners moved furniture and carried equipment each Sunday to the school for the services. Today, we have a beautiful building with a generous sanctuary - and a welcoming, generous group of parishioners! Read on for more history.

you are welcome at St. Barnabas. Our mission is to create deeper and fuller personal relationships with God and our neighbors.

Lessons and Carols

The Christmas service of Lessons and Carols offers traditional and contemporary Christmas music combined with readings from the Old and New Testaments to tell the Christmas story. It’s a “don’t miss” event, guaranteed to get you into the Christmas spirit! Hear the St. Barnabas adult, children, and hand bell choirs perform your favorite carols and some new songs. A reception will follow the service.

Tree 1 937

The children of St. Barnabas performed a spectacular musical version of the classic “Tale of Three Trees” this past Sunday! The group of 11 used basic props and sang music by Allen Pote with a book by Tom S. Long. They were accompanied by organist Michael Chertock; narrator was parent Erika McCoy. Children who’d like to sing with the group at the Christmas Eve service still can join! Practices are in the undercroft, immediately after 10 a.m. Holy Communion. Just show up!

teachers class 0872

The 2015 class of communicants celebrated at the November 15 service. Here they are with their teachers. Each November, children in grades 3-5 are formally communicated into the Episcopal church. Although many have already experienced the rite of Eucharist, this education gives them a strong religious foundation for the rest of their lives. If you would like more information about the formal communion process, call the office: 513.984.8401.
