Small Groups at St. B.
Jesus had small groups, his closest friends, and the larger small group of his disciples, and because of those relationships, his ministry in the world was more effective. If Jesus behaved in this manner, we can be confident that this is God’s way. As Jesus said, “I pray that they may be one in us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. I have given them the glory you gave me that they may be one, as we are one.” (John 17:21-22)
A small group is a place where you can be known and know others and listen for God’s movement in your life through connecting for meaningful conversation and to grow in your faith and understanding of God’s call in your life. We continue to add small groups and opportunities to connect. If you need help finding a small group or have an idea for a group, please let us know!
SUNDAY REFLECTION GROUP
Join Rev. Jane between the services for a reflection on different topics related to faith and life. Our current study is on the book, Holy Envy, Finding God in the Faith of Others by Barbara Brown Taylor and reflecting on inter-faith engagement. We also have several guest speakers from different faith traditions coming to share with us. All are welcome for conversation and community every Sunday at 9 a.m.
Mondays
LIFE OF PRAYER REFLECTION GROUP: JESUS IS KNOCKING
Each Monday we gather in the Chapel of the Rose to learn and practice a variety of forms of prayer. Our current study is led by parishioner Kendra Lacy beginning Monday, September 16th at 11 am as she leads a workshop on her book Jesus Is Knocking. Lacy will address the struggle to find purpose and meaning in our lives, a journey we should never give up on. It’s a journey, Lacy posits, that can begin quite simply, first by just taking the time to listen to the world around us. Jesus is knocking. It is on us to open the door.
BREATH OF LIFE
Exercise with us - come enjoy standing or seated exercise. All skill levels are welcome. We meet weekly in the Great Hall for movement and conversation. On the third week of the month, we have a yoga instructor lead our group. Other weeks we walk or do circuit exercises together. This is a way to be together as a community and move our bodies. We meet Mondays at 10 a.m.
Tuesdays
BIBLE STUDY
The Bible Study group meets for conversation and reflection on Scripture and life using a variety of books to guide our study. We are currently reading, Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Learning to Love the Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans. No preparation needed, just join us on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. in the Great Hall or by Zoom.
STEPHEN MINISTRY GROUP
Stephen Ministers provide high-quality, one-to-one, Christ-centered care to people in the congregation and the community experiencing life difficulties. This group of people meets to learn and support each other in ministry on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. this fall. Please reach out to Deb Fergus or Kirk Murray if you would like to join the next Stephen Ministry training and small group.
Wednesdays
ST. BARNABAS DAD’S GROUP
Join us for a weekly men’s group where we will share our lives and faith together. We begin with a 5-week session (September 18 – October 16) and will gather for prayer and reflection on our work, relationships, fatherhood, and societal challenges. We want to foster a community where men can support each other and grow stronger in our faith together. Sign up at stbmontgomery.org/stbdadsgroup if you are interested. We meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Great Hall or Youth Room.
BECOMING BELOVED COMMUNITY
Becoming Beloved Community helps the parish create ongoing programs and activities that support The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice, with greater care for and preservation of God’s creation. Join us in dreaming and working to foster Beloved Communities where all people may experience dignity and abundant life and see themselves and others as beloved children of God. This group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. We welcome visitors or those interested in our work.

Do you love to read? Join the St. B. book club! We meet at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the church. Plus, we provide a Zoom link for those wishing to participate online. Check our calendar for upcoming gatherings. Books are listed in the event for that month.
