Meet Ali and Matt
This week we feature two more Creators and Innovators who will inspire you. If you know someone who you think should be a part of this series highlighting all of the many gifts we have in our congregation, please feel free to nominate them here!

Meet Tim Zelek
Tim and his wife Betsy joined St. Barnabas 35 years ago and have been involved in so many projects and events in the life of this congregation. Their children, Anne and John, grew up at St. B and now Tim and Betsy enjoy sharing the great outdoors with their grandson.

Meet Scott and Kathy
In our third week of shining a spotlight on St. Barnabas members, we discover two people who have created safe spaces for people to work, play and live with each other.

May God Bless this House: Epiphany House Blessings
A part of church history is the custom of blessing homes at the New Year or in the Epiphany Season. Christians would hold a short service of prayer to ask God’s blessing on their dwellings and on all who live, work with and visit them.
In this way, we can invite Jesus to be a “guest” in our home, a listener to each conversation, a guide for troubled times, and a blessing in times of thanksgiving.

Abundant Gifts
All the presents are unwrapped, decorations are going back to the basement and resolutions are in full swing. As the new year unfolds before us, I wonder….what gifts are waiting to be opened in 2024.

A New Happy Home: Old St. Barnabas organ relocated to St. Simon
All the presents are unwrapped, decorations are going back to the basement and resolutions are in full swing. As the new year unfolds before us, I wonder….what gifts are waiting to be opened in 2024.

Telling the Truth
Author and St. Barnabas parishioner, Louise Borden, has spent the last 33 years creating stories that feature ordinary people who do amazing things. A prolific children's book creative, Louise has published thirty-two books including some that have won awards or been translated into other languages.

Fully Restored
If you are around St. Barnabas during the week you may run into a quiet unassuming man wearing an In-n-Out Burger T-shirt who is busy fixing something on our unending to do list. This man is David Browe and he blesses us each week with his wisdom and Mr. Fix-it Skills. Since 2015, he has been the eyes and ears of Buildings and Grounds and the fearless leader of our Termites. His expertise, patience, and passion for restoring not only our space, but his treasured classic cars makes him a perfect candidate for our next Gallery Exhibit.

Every Family has a Story: Habitat Build 2023
Meet Carmen and Josephine. This mother and daughter will soon become Habitat
homeowners together. Josephine (mother) works at the University of Cincinnati. Carmen (daughter) has two daughters of her own. The youngest, Kamya (17), lives in the household and enjoys doing hair. Carmen describes her family as outgoing. They like to have fun together talking and really enjoy dancing.

Soul Collage
During the 2023 Women's Retreat, Rev. Jane invited everyone to explore their inner self through the practice of Soul Collage. This month, we are honored to offer the personal collages from women in our congregation on the Art Exhibit wall.

The St. Barnabas Endowment Fund: Questions Answered
The Endowment Committee is committed in assisting parishioners in making end of life giving decisions.

Todd the Tektōn
The Ancient Greek noun tektōn is a common term for an artisan/craftsman, in particular a carpenter, woodworker, or builder. In Matthew 13:55 we find that Jesus was the son of a carpenter which would make Joseph and Jesus the sort of men you called when something needs to be fixed.

Animator Among Us
This month we are celebrating the talent of Marius Chertock. Born into a multi-talented family, Marius has found his own passion and talent in the Art of Animation.

Captain Kirk Leads Our Prayer Vessel
When Kirk Murray was in the Air Force and achieved the rank of captain, it’s no surprise that everyone called him Captain Kirk. The name needs no explanation, but if you’ve lived in a cave for the past 56 years, Captain Kirk was the chief officer on the Star Trek starship Enterprise.

Artist-in-Residence: Erika McCoy
As our Director of Children and Family Ministries Erika has filled our lives with creativity and love. And now we have an opportunity to see the passion she exudes through her watercolor paintings.

Courage to Connect
St. Barnabas is a “community of encouragement,” a place where we share our hearts with one another, loan each other courage, and work to share God’s love with all people. We are launching a new Tuesday evening discussion group, Courage to Connect. This is a place to practice having courageous conversations, hosted by the Rev. Daniel Hughes.

Finding a Via Media
We are constantly bombarded with more information than most of us know how to process. Our political leaders continue to fight, and many people feel scared that rights they once had are being taken away. Certainly, in the wake of the reversal of Roe v. Wade, we find ourselves hearing stories on all sides about what is lost and what is gained in this moment.

A New Way to Pray
Growing up, there was one dinner, that I absolutely hated. Whenever my mom, would make fish for dinner, I have memories of complaining and refusing to eat, and crying at the dinner table about how terrible this meal was and how I couldn’t possibly eat it. It wasn’t until I eventually moved away from Ohio, living on the East Coast and for a short while in France, that I began to even try fish again.

Baymiller Houses Restored: A Unique Episcopal Connection
A 19th century building that had been in danger of collapse in recent years has been renovated to provide permanent new homes for residents of Cincinnati's West End.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati dedicated the three townhouse units on Friday, May 13, along Baymiller Street near the St. Barnabas-supported Seven Hills (Findlay Street) Neighborhood Houses ministry.

Seeing the Face of God
A group of us traveled to see an art exhibit at Christ Church Cathedral downtown yesterday. The exhibit is called Icons of Transformation by artist Ludmila Pawlowska. She was inspired by Orthodox Christian icons but presents her contemporary icons as a way to see the divine presence, a kind of window that points to a reality beyond the image itself.
